'Without Sleep I can't Possibly Dream'

"I had insomnia and nightmares and had tried everything to get a better night's sleep from herbs, to cream, to hypnosis, to yoga to all sorts of  alternative therapies.  It's hard to express how grateful I am to have found Joanna.  She not only helped me to sleep better but also helped me to understand how my lifestyle and anxiety was keeping my sleep problems going.  She did all of this in such a kind, caring way, I do not hesitate to recommend her."

Compassion Focused CBT for Insomnia (CBT-I)

Joanna Hogan is our sleep expert and has a reputation for evidence-based, compassionate CBT for insomnia.  She works with clients who feel they've tried everything else in their search for better sleep. With over 12 years of experience in the sleep field, including the NHS insomnia unit, she has helped thousands of people to improve their sleep.

Joanna’s NHS experience includes working within talking therapies (IAPT), where she trained and supervised other therapists on sleep issues, ran sleep groups, and worked directly with clients to address their sleep difficulties. She has also been part of the NHS Insomnia Unit at UCLH, where she led sleep groups and provided one-on-one support for clients with complex sleep issues, including insomnia and nightmares. These clients often hadn’t responded to CBT for Insomnia (CBT-I) alone and included individuals with chronic pain, PTSD, migraines, chronic fatigue syndrome, and other long-term health conditions.

Joanna has a special interest in helping clients whose sleep has been affected by factors such as work stress, study, menopause, pain, long-term conditions, and mental health issues like PTSD, OCD, anxiety, depression, and post-natal depression. While Joanna often uses CBT for insomnia (CBT-I), which has an impressive success rate of over 80%, she enhances her work with Compassion-Focused Therapy, Schema Therapy, EMDR, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) — all of which she has extensive training in.

Joanna works closely with Consultant Psychiatrists and Sleep Physicians at ‘Sleep London’ and makes referrals when needed. The consultants at Sleep London bring decades of expertise in Sleep Medicine and Neurology, having worked within the NHS and at Guys and St Thomas' Hospital.
