Joanna Hogan works alongside the gynaecologists at the Amara Clinic in Tunbridge Wells to provide an integrated service for women and tailored CBT support for managing challenges like P.M.T, P.M.D.D, post-natal depression, menopause, and more.

Changing hormones in the menopause, perimenopause and in monthly cycles can have a big impact on anxiety, mood and sleep. CBT alongside good medical support has been shown to help alleviate physical sensations like hot flashes and night sweats as well as lifting mood.   Things that we used to take in our stride, like driving on a motorway or attending a social event can suddenly feel more daunting.   For neurodivergent women (particularly ADHD and autistic women) and women with existing anxiety and depression hormonal change can be even more challenging.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) has a strong evidence base for helping with menopausal low mood, anxiety and sleep and with physical symptoms and is endorsed by the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) in their guidelines on menopause management. CBT is an NHS supported therapy that helps increase your awareness of the link between your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. We help you to develop the strategies to cope with unwanted thoughts, feelings, and associated physical reactions.  We help you adapt to changes and find your way to live your best life.

At our women’s clinic we find have found that the best approach to tackling mental and physical issues in the perimenopause and menopause is one that addresses all the relevant factors combined.  This includes talking to medical experts to ensure your hormones are balanced, maintaining your social connections, staying active, being kind to yourself and talking to others about how you feel.
